Eli and Heather Goodner arrive unannounced at the 7th Street House with a bottle of wine. Eli takes note of Benjamin's Browning Hi-Power and his love for his grandmother. Over the course of the evening Eli reveals he is stealing gold ore from his employer in NV and processing it in his basement. The first attempt to fulfill their swinging fantasy fails. The recruitment of roommate Natalie Crumm into their plan begins.

Heather Goodner texts Benjamin Powell with an invitation to Moontime dollar pint night, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Over drinks, Eli Goodner confesses to breaking into the home of a young man Heather had left him for in high school — finding them in bed together, and breaking the boy's jaw. The confession is an attempted warning — what happens to men who get close to Heather.

7th Street House, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Heather leads Benjamin into his room and attempts to kiss him. He pushes her away. She says, "He'll get mad if we don't." Eli appears in the doorway grinning — "Are we going to do this?" Benjamin looks at Heather and asks if this is what she wants. She says, "yes." The third attempt succeeds. Afterward, Eli Goodner delivers his first threat: "If you tell anyone about this I'm going to fucking kill you."

Benjamin Powell attends a Christmas concert at Post Falls Middle School for Blaine Goodner. Eli Goodner is in the upper bleachers with Kasarah Gregg, Asher, and Brodie. Asher and Brodie wave — Eli flips Benjamin off. During the concert, Eli stands, steps in front of Benjamin, and publicly threatens his life — telling him to meet him outside. Eli storms out. The concert resumes.

Georgia Wallace and Phil Warren, former coworkers of Heather Goodner's at Northwestern Mutual, arrive at the front door of Benjamin Powell Galleries with Ryan Bones. A fourth man enters with the group. His energy is aggressive — Benjamin Powell braces. The two lock eyes and the man's demeanor shifts entirely. He turns and leaves hurriedly. "That was weird, who was that?" Ryan asks. "I thought he was with you," Benjamin responds. Georgia sees Benjamin's backpacking gear laid out on floor. They remain for 18 minutes.

NCIS agents contact Benjamin Powell while he is working as an extra on the set of "All Those Small Things," a feature film being shot in Airway Heights, Spokane, Washington. The agents are investigating a suspected murder that took place during his third tour to Iraq in 2002. They will not disclose details until they meet face to face.
